Week 1 Question: Mealplanning

How have you had the most success when it comes to mealplanning? Who decides the menu? Does weekly or monthly work better for you? Any tips or tricks that have worked well for you?

  1. I plan my meals once a week. I figure out what is happening for the week and plan my meals around our weekly activities. I always wait until the new store ads to come out so I can see what is on sale. I usually have at least one crock pot meal a week and one meal from left overs.

  2. I am an ad shopper so what's on sale is what we eat the new ad starts on Wednesday so my cooking week is Wednesday to Tuesday. I love to try new recipes but have a hard time remembering where I found it:) This blog should help. Thanks for the ideas Hope to learn many new things!!!

  3. I have never done the monthly meal planning (although I would like to try it). If ever I do plan it's on a weekly basis. I like the ideas of the "what's on sale" based menu but I also like to use what I have here to ensure it gets used and not pushed to the back and expire etc. As for who helps plan it's usually me (sometimes Kyle has input) however as the kids get older it will be nice to have some more feedback but so far they are happy with what I choose. :)

  4. Jens and I usually take a few minutes on Sunday night to plan a menu for the week. We go by what's in our fridge/freezer/pantry and what's on sale. We're both pretty indecisive so we make sure that the other makes his/her fair share of decisions.:) I hardly ever stick to the menu exactly but just knowing that I have everything I need for those specific meals every week makes our chances of eating-out-because-I-don't-know-what-to-do-for-dinner go way down. I usually look at the menu in the morning and see which meal sounds best to me on that particular day and sometimes I do something not on the menu that sounds good to me that day and I have stuff on hand for.
